GED Exam

About the GED

The GED (General Educational Development) exam is accepted in New Jersey and most U.S. states. It consists of four subtests that can be taken individually. You must pass all four to earn your high school equivalency diploma.

Mathematical Reasoning

Covers quantitative problem solving, algebraic reasoning, and data analysis. Includes a calculator-allowed section and a non-calculator section. Topics include basic math, geometry, graphs, and algebra.

Reasoning Through Language Arts

Tests reading comprehension, writing skills, and language usage. Includes passage-based reading, an extended-response essay, and grammar and editing questions. This is the longest GED subtest.

Science

Covers life science, physical science, and earth and space science. Questions test your ability to read scientific texts, interpret data and graphs, and apply scientific reasoning to real-world scenarios.

Social Studies

Covers U.S. history, civics and government, economics, and geography. Questions require you to analyze primary sources, maps, charts, and political cartoons.

TASC Exam

About the TASC

The TASC (Test Assessing Secondary Completion) is used in New York and several other states. It consists of five subtests that are taken and scored individually.

Reading

Evaluates your ability to comprehend and analyze literary and informational texts. Includes fiction passages, non-fiction articles, and paired passages with multiple-choice questions.

Writing

Tests grammar, sentence structure, paragraph organization, and written expression. Includes a written essay that is scored on development, organization, clarity, and conventions.

Mathematics

Covers number operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, and data analysis. A calculator is permitted on one section. Questions are both multiple choice and gridded response.

Science

Tests scientific reasoning across physical science, life science, and earth and space science. Includes data interpretation, experimental design analysis, and scientific argumentation.

Social Studies

Covers U.S. history, world history, civics, government, geography, and economics. Requires analysis of documents, maps, and data sets.
